Description
The California Incline is a slanted road in Santa Monica, California, connecting Ocean Avenue with Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).
It begins at the intersection with Ocean Avenue and California Avenue, at the top of the Palisades bluffs, extending to PCH at the base of the bluffs. It was built in 1930 and is 1,400 feet in length.
The California Incline was identified as structurally deficient in the early 1990s.
The incline was originally a walkway to provide access to the beach for pedestrians in 1896.
It was known as Sunset Trail.
The newly constructed California Incline was reopened September 1, 2016 after 17 months of demolition and reconstruction.

Thanks Marvin... this is a huge improvement over the old Incline. The pedestrian walkway is fantastic with lanes for going up and down.
