Description
Before the faucet, there were cast iron water pumps. This model dates back to the 1900s to 1920s.
Many of our Great Grandparents had hand pumps in the kitchen, yard and out by the barn.
Pumps like this replaced the rope and bucket that was used to reach water deep in the wells.

Thank you so much Marsha… There were a lot of these in use in the part of the country where I grew up. There were two types of pumps, the primer and the self-primer. The primer-required water be poured into it in order for it to pump water. The self-primer needed on priming-water to start pumping water. Sooo… If you had a primer and no water to prime it… you were out of luck!
