The Imperial Valley is located 100 miles west of San Diego near the California and Mexican border.
The story of the Imperial Valley is synonymous with the dream of irrigating the desert.
The dream began in 1859 with Dr. O.M. Wozencraft, who had originally come to California seeking gold in the Gold Rush in 1849.
His goal was irrigation for farmlands and water for inhabitants of the Valley.
During the early years water was transported by horse and wagon.
By 1905, the residents numbered 12,000. Irrigated acreage had increased from 1,500 acres to 67,000 acres and the Southern Pacific Railroad built tracks into the Imperial Valley. Water was transported by rail with engines like # 151.
I am a retired Information Technology Project Manager located in Santa Monica, California. I’ve loved photography and started taking photos in the late 1970s. With a full time, job, I had little time to enjoy my passion for photography. I will shoot anything (with Canon or Sony) that produces an emotional reaction. I'm self-taught and began to take my photography seriously in 2006. Retirement has given me an opportunity to follow my grandson and shoot photos of him playing basketball and having some of my photos published in sport magazines. Welcome to my gallery, enjoy my photos presented for your viewing pleasure and purchase. Thanks Gene “PapaG” Parks All images are copyright by Gene Parks. All The materials contained...
